Stories for kids 1

                    ONE GOOD TURN DESERVES ANOTHER

M
any, many years ago, there lived a lion in the jungle. It was big and strong. Near the jungle, there was also a small cave. The cave was the home of a small timid mouse. Although the mouse was small but it was quite clever.

One morning after a drizzle, the mouse went out to look for food. It was feeling hungry. As the mouse was walking around, suddenly something in the sky caught its attention. The mouse looked up and saw a beautiful rainbow. One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven. The mouse counted to the colours of the rainbow and there are seven colours. The colours are so amazing. There are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and purple. The mouse stopped and wondered how a rainbow is formed. Suddenly, the mouse remembered what its mother once told him. According to her, a rainbow is an excellent demonstration of the dispersion of light. Each droplet of water acts as a tiny prism that both disperses the light and reflects it back to our eyes. As the mouse was appreciating the beauty of the God’s creation, he walked without looking.

Oh, no! The mouse accidentally knocked into the lion’s nose. The mouse was frightened.

‘Who dares to disturb me when I’m sleeping.’roared the lion. The lion woke up and caught the mouse by its tail.

The lion opened his mouth as widely as he could and showed his big sharp canine teeth to the mouse. The mouse was very frightened. It was shivering. The mouse pleaded the lion not to eat him.
‘Ha!Ha! Why shouldn’t I eat you? I am a carnivore. I eat meat and other smaller animals like you.’

The mouse quickly thought of an idea. The mouse told the lion that its meat would not be tasty because he is an omnivore. He eats anything, meat or plants. The mouse also promised to help the lion one day if the lion sets him free. The lion finally was convinced and set the mouse free. The mouse thanked the lion as ran away as fast as he could.

Days passed. One day, an old hunter went into the jungle. He wanted to hunt some wild animals. As he was walking, he saw some paw prints. I knew there was a lion nearby. Without wasting time, the hunter quickly set a trap to catch the lion. He put a goat in the trap as a bait.

The lion was hungry and started to look for his prey. He saw a goat. Without further thinking, he sprang onto the goat. Unfortunately, he was caught in the trap. He struggled and struggled to set himself free but he did not succeed. The lion growled as loud as he could for help.

A few metres away, the mouse heard the growl. He recognised the voice. He knew the lion was in trouble. He ran to the rescue. Although the mouse has only 16 teeth and a short lifespan of 1 to 3 years, he knew he could help the mighty lion. Diligently, he used in front incisors to chew and bite the trap. Finally, there was a big hole in the trap and the lion was free.

The lion thanked the mouse for saving his life and soon they became good friends and lived happily ever after till the end of their lives.
